Maastricht

Maastricht is characterized by a rich history and culture, and thanks its existence to the Meuse River. A settlement arose around the bases of the Roman built bridge over the Meuse. This settlement grew into the Maastricht we know today.

The old buildings are joined by renovated buildings, museums, bridges, an art university and districts where new architecture is combined with the old. The city treasures its past and new buildings are designed to fit into and respect the existing old architecture. In Maastricht a culinary lifestyle dominates. Food, wine, dine and enjoy are keywords in Maastricht and surroundings. There are a lot of restaurants (some of them with Michelin stars), bars and terraces, affordable for any budget, and always with fine quality.

Maastricht is centrally located in Europe and is located near the Belgian and German border. Of its residents, 10% are students and almost half of whom are from outside the country. This international ambience is in line with the character of Maastricht. The city center of Maastricht is compact, meaning you’ll soon know your way around. There are many highlights which can be easily visited within walking distance. For more information visit: www.visitmaastricht.com.

When it comes to the future, Maastricht is quite ambitious. This is demonstrated by the 2030 City Vision goals: Maastricht wants to grow into a top location for high-quality knowledge technology, with a strong economy, sufficient job opportunities, and a pleasant living environment.
