Welcome speech

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

On behalf of the European Society for Biomaterials, I would like to welcome you to the 29th Annual Conference of the European Society for Biomaterials, held from September 9th to 13th, 2018 in Maastricht.

Since its establishment in 1976, the mission of the European Society for Biomaterials has been to serve as a highly interactive community committed to promote excellence in all aspects of biomaterial science, tissue engineering, translational research and improve human health. In this sense, the Annual ESB Conference has been a major event for the biomaterial science and regenerative medicine community.

ESB 2018 is a promising fascinating event, dedicated this year to “Materials for Life”. This meeting provides an opportunity for academia, clinicians and industries to gather and discuss the latest trends and scientific breakthroughs pertinent to the field of biomaterials, from the bench to bedside.

In this conference, our main objectives are to encourage, foster and promote excellence in cooperative research and education in the biomaterial science field.
This is accomplished through:
- a program of attractive showcasing European and International top researchers from various areas of biomaterials, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine,
- and the recognition of outstanding members with prestigious awards given at the ESB conference.

Another way in which ESB supports its mission, is the promotion of educational program. By organizing a variety of events and workshops during the ESB conference, offering multiple opportunities for students to gain experience, receive mentoring and advices and gather scientific contacts, we aim to increase the active participation of younger members within the society and bestow a number of awards upon young researchers and students.

The local organization team, professionally managed by Pamela Habibovic, President of European Society for Biomaterials, is fully motivated and actively at work. Within this dynamic environment for innovative research in the field of biomaterials, they have generated an array of scientific and social events that will most certainly offer an unforgettable experience for all ESB 2018 participants.

Looking forward to welcoming you in Maastricht

Kindest regards,

Joëlle Amédée
Vice President of the European Society for Biomaterials
